Podcast Preparation - Part 1

 Wow, 

I haven't listened to a single podcast since they came out; and now I'm making one. 

I bet my dad would have thrived on podcasts had I done so earlier. He was a really popular radio talk show host for some time in his life. 

Also, for some time, a frustrated one. 

It's so interesting the wide variety of formats you can use to reach learners, and I guess, to minimise your chances of being frustrated with the level of reach and accessibility of your message. 

Who knows? Perhaps if people had been able to download dad's stuff, he'd have been less misunderstood. Anyway, I'm happy to get the opportunity - and I'ma make sure I don't mess it up - to master the art of the podcast.

Format of Audio Lesson

Establish the format of the audio lesson 

There are many different formats to choose from for an audio lesson. These include:   Straight talk             Panel discussion – an interviewer with two or more contributors

Phone-in – recording of contributors on the phone; usually used in studio-based context. You must first obtain consent from the person being recorded. Also Check if there any country specific restrictions to recording an individual over the phone.     

Single interview – with an interviewee and interviewer.   

Feature – with voice, background sound, narration and other elements mixed together.          

Dramatization– this is a broad category and can include theatre, music and other entertaining formats.            

Informative/documentary – a piece that primarily conveys information, in the same way as a public service announcement or advert provides educational information. Combination of the above.

Identify support materials that you can use to encourage active participation in the course.

Anytune App for slowing down bits of songs analysed 

Youtube videos (audio) demonstrating devices used

Musescore notation software

Smartphones (teacher and student)

Internet connection - for finding open educational resources, especially - principle of consent before use is always sacred

This activity using the production plan wizard taught me that everything requires some degree of planning. It shows you opportunities and dangers you wouldn't see otherwise.
